Father Edward McGuinness, 89, was called to his eternal rest on December 25, 2019 in San Diego.

 Fr. McGuinness, born on June 2, 1930 in Glasgow, Scotland, was the second of 10 children born to James Gerard McGuinness and Ann McGroarty. He is survived by his sisters, Sr. Agnes, SDB, Bridie, Molly, Ann and Catherine and brother, Pat.

 On Sept. 11, 2019, Sister Sylvia Parkes, RSM, passed into the arms of her loving God after a long illness. Survived by four of her eight siblings, she had been longing to return to her native Sligo, Ireland.

Instead God gave her the gift of her true home where we wish her eternal rest. As God designs so well, two of Sr. Sylvia’s nieces, Edel and Aisling, came from Ireland to be with her in her illness.

 Sister Mary Doran, OLVM, Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters, died peacefully in Hospice Care on Sept. 15, 2019, in the presence of her OLVM Sisters, who had come to be with her during her recent illness. 

Sister Mary, the last OLVM Sister living locally, has for many years gifted the Diocese by her presence in Bermuda Dunes, her ministry as paralegal and her ongoing missionary zeal.

 Deacon Tiambeng was born in Manila, Philippines to Alejandro Tiambeng and Victoria Lazarte on September 2, 1959 and was baptized on December 25 that same year at St. John the Baptist Church, San Juan.

fr_devineFr. Charles Devine, 83, a retired priest of the Diocese, was called to his eternal rest on Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at his home in Hemet.

   Born on December 7,1935 in Los Angeles to Edward and Jane Devine, he was baptized soon after at St. Raphael Church, Los Angeles.

   He attended elementary school from 1942-50 at St. Anselm, Los Angeles, high school from 1950-51 at Los Angeles College and 1951-54 at Junipero Serra, Gardena.

   Discerning a call to priesthood, Fr. Devine joined Lady Queen of Angels Seminary, Los Angeles (1954-55), St. Mary's College, Moraga (1956-59) and graduated with a BA from Immaculate Heart Seminary, San Diego (1960-65).
