Since 1974, the Church in the United States has observed National Catholic Schools Week, an annual celebration of Catholic education that occurs during the last week of January, which in 2025 was Jan. 26 through Feb. 1. This year’s theme was “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.” Bishop Alberto Rojas released a statement on Jan. 26, encouraging the faithful to reflect on Catholic education. “To our pastors, deacons, and religious, your role as spiritual leaders enriches the connection between parish and school communities. By keeping the sacraments, Scripture, and Catholic identity at the center of our mission, you strengthen the foundation of our shared faith... To our principals, teachers and educators, you are the guiding lights of your school communities, shaping minds and hearts in profound and lasting ways. Through your dedication, you inspire students and families to embrace the Gospel message in their daily lives... Together, we are united in this mission, forming a community guided by faith, strengthened by hope, and inspired by love. Let us continue to work together to ensure our schools remain places where Christ’s teachings illuminate every subject, every interaction, and every encounter,” Bishop Rojas wrote.
