On Sept. 6, St. Edward Catholic School in Corona celebrated its 77th anniversary, commemorating the school’s 1947 founding by the Sisters of St. Francis. St. Edward celebrated by decorating the outdoor areas of campus with Happy Birthday signs and balloons, including eagle-shaped balloons, representing the school’s mascot. In addition to celebrating the school’s foundation anniversary, students, teachers and staff welcomed back former principal Nathan Arnold, who was given a special blessing, thank you letters crafted by the students, and one last “sliming.” Students and staff took turns pouring green slime over the former principal. Lastly, within the school’s anniversary celebrations, it also took time to recognize the reopening of the newly renovated church at St. Edward, which had reopened a day earlier. Bishop Alberto Rojas celebrated a special bilingual Mass Sept. 5 to mark the church reopening. It had been closed since June 8 during which time liturgies were held in the parish hall.
