“We offer this so that people may grow in their faith and also for the greater community, those that don’t come to church,” said Gabriela Hernadnez, one of the event organizers. “This gave them the opportunity to listen and to become aware of God.”
The speakers and music focused around the day’s theme “Abriendo la Puerta de la Fe” or “Opening the Door of Faith.” Organizers hoped to expand on Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s call in the Year of Faith. Talks included the role of Mary as a model of faith, discipleship and evangelization within the parish.
Speakers and musicians included Fernando Casanova, doctor of theology; Noel Díaz, founder of El Sembrador; Yesenia Flores and Felix Arriero.
Proceeds from the day of evangelization will go toward the building fund for the new sanctuary the parish plans to erect in the future.
The parish’s marriage ministry held a similar event two years ago, which also brought large crowds. This year the parish involved all its ministries in realizing this event. Organizers hope they may be able to continue offering days of evangelization in the future.
“We received nothing but positive feedback,” Hernandez said. “They want more of this type of event held throughout the year.”
