The Diocesan Filipino Ministry commemorated the 126th Philippine Independence Day with a special Mass celebrated by Father Eliseo Napiere at St. Anthony Parish in Upland on June 8.
“As we celebrate our Independence Day, let us remember that true freedom is living out our faith authentically and joyfully,” Fr. Napiere said during the homily. “Our ancestors fought for our freedom, let us honor their sacrifices by living lives that reflect the love, mercy and justice of God. Let us be proud of our heritage and let our faith be the guiding light that leads us forward.” Several other fellow Filipino priests and clergy attended the Mass and occupied the front pews. The Philippine Independence Day celebration continued after Mass with special Filipino traditional food, song and dance performances.
