The top three songs as judged by the Diocesan Music Committee will be performed at Diocesan Musicians’ Day on July 20. The winning song will be featured at the Year of Faith Closing Mass on the Feast of Christ the King, November 24.
The songwriting contest was first suggested by Father Dennis Legaspi, V.F., pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary parish in Desert Hot Springs when he was serving on a diocesan committee created to spawn ideas for local celebration of the Year of Faith. Fr. Legaspi originally conceived the contest as finding the best melody to fit the diocesan vision statement but other lyrics that celebrate the Year of Faith may now be featured in the song.
