When Rosa came to Catholic Charities San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, she wasn’t just carrying the weight of her financial struggles—she was carrying the responsibility of raising her 13-year-old grandson, Jordan. Living on a fixed income, an unexpected car repair left Rosa falling behind on utility bills and struggling to put food on the table. With nowhere else to turn, she reached out for help.

During this holiday season, Catholic Charities has provided Rosa with utility and food assistance, ensuring she could get through this challenging time. The team also signed Jordan up for the ‘Adopt-a-Family’ program, ensuring he would have a joyful Christmas filled with thoughtful gifts.

The ‘Adopt-a-Family’ program is made possible by the generosity of anonymous donors from the community who step forward to “adopt” a family in need. These donors work with Catholic Charities to provide personalized gifts for children, tailored to their interests and needs, while preserving the family’s dignity. For Jordan, this meant a Christmas morning filled with surprises that reminded him he was cared for and valued.

“I was so worried about how I’d make Christmas happen for Jordan,” Rosa said. “When he opened his gifts and saw what was inside, he couldn’t stop smiling.”
