We are looking to expand our pool of freelance writers for our diocesan newspapers, the Inland Catholic BYTE (English) and El Compás Católico (Spanish)!
This opportunity is open to writers based in Riverside County or San Bernardino County. Writers based in neighboring counties in Southern California may also be considered. The writer should either be a Catholic or be familiar with/respectful of Catholicism.
The stories we assign to freelancers are features style pieces related to Catholicism in the Diocese of San Bernardino. We do not commission opinion/commentary articles to freelancers, only news/features articles. Some articles may be done completely remotely, while for others the freelancer would have to travel somewhere to cover the story.
Stories are generally assigned, but pitches are also accepted. (Please read our websites, icbyte.org or elcompascatolico.org, to become familiar with our content before pitching.)
Rates are $175 for a standard length story (500-1,000 words), $225 for a story over 1,000 words and $25 for a photo.
