Auxiliary Bishop Rutilio del Riego has been committed to making the pilgrimage through San Francisco to show his support to the noble cause and will do so again for the sixth time. He walks in solidarity with his brother bishops, men and women who have been hurt by abortion, and those who recognize the moral implications of abortion. He will be joined by many, including local Knights of Columbus, parishioners and students from the diocese. Bishop del Riego walks to generate support for the diocesan Gabriel Project which helps moms, dads and babies in need, provides training for Natural Family Planning and help for others suffering emotional pain after an abortion.
The growing demographic of young people at the walk is perhaps the most inspiring. They have what the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops refers to as a ‘Call to Greatness.’
“They are full of enthusiasm, because they are able to look at the world with a fresh Gospel lens,” says Mary Huber, Associate Director of the office of Pro-Life in the Diocese of San Bernardino. “It’s exciting to see our youth understand this social teaching with such clarity. They are our witness of hope.”
As a community of people it is important for us to acknowledge the social issues of our time. We are being led in this 21st century by a strong clergy that reflects the wisdom of our Holy Catholic Church.
