In commemoration of these decisions, the Diocese of San Bernardino will once again be joining brothers and sisters throughout Southern California at the Los Angeles Walk for Life, OneLife LA, on January 23.
This event is also an opportunity to raise funds for the Gabriel Project by sponsoring the participation of Bishop Gerald Barnes or Auxiliary Emeritus Bishop Rutilio del Riego.
The Gabriel Project supports the diocesan Natural Family Planning and Post Abortion Healing programs.
Last year an estimated 15,000 people participated in this effort to promote the life and dignity of the human person.
It was the first major walk for Marilyn Day of Yucaipa.
“People had told me how powerful and uplifting it would be but I was still amazed at the energy in the air and feeling of unity among all those in attendance,” she recalls. “The speakers who shared their stories were both touching and inspirational.”
Last year, Deborah Cummins from St. Peter and St. Paul parish in Alta Loma organized a bus to take to the Los Angeles march. “It was inspirational being with so many like-minded people walking for human dignity,” she says.
OneLife LA is sponsored by the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Office of Life, Justice and Peace in collaboration with the Knights of Columbus and in partnership with the neighboring dioceses of Orange, San Diego, San Bernardino and Fresno.
The event will start at 12 noon at La Placita Olvera. Marchers will then begin with a walk up Temple Street, across Grand Avenue and down First Street for a family-friendly day of inspiring speakers, live music, entertainment, food trucks, and exhibits from community organizations serving those in need.
This is followed by a Requiem Mass for the Unborn at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at 5 p.m.
