Aquinas wins first CIF title in 12 years

The Aquinas High School football team capped an undefeated regular season and playoff run with a 24-6 defeat of Ridgecrest Burroughs High School on Dec. 1 to win the CIF Southern Section Division 10 Championship.

After falling in the CIF title game by a point last year, the Falcons returned and used dominant rushing from Brandon Rankins and strong defense to win comfortably. Rankins ran for 263 yards and three touchdowns while the defense intercepted four Burroughs passes.

Aquinas had last won the CIF championship in 2005.

The Falcons advanced to the State Semi-final Game the following week to meet Grace Brethren High School in Moorpark where they came up short by a score of 24-8.
