Students at Our Lady of the Assumption School in San Bernardino took to an outdoor garden on March 21 for a lesson in caring for God’s creation. Students slipped on their gardening gloves and aprons before digging into the soil of several garden beds, sorting through the weeds and fallen leaves. One student proudly showcased a carrot that he picked from the soil. “Teaching a child to garden is metaphorically giving them the tools to nurture and take charge of their future, emphasizing self-sufficiency, responsibility, and the care of living things,” the school wrote in a social media post about lesson.
