Applications are open for the 2024 St. Martin de Porres Annual Scholarship, sponsored by the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 257. This scholarship has been established to provide partial financial support to assist with the cost of books and educational materials for African American high school students in the Diocese of San Bernardino as they continue their Catholic high school education. Students must be enrolled at Aquinas High School, San Bernardino; Notre Dame High School, Riverside; Xavier College Preparatory High School, Palm Desert; or Saint Jean de Lestonnac, Temecula, and have a grade point average of 2.5 or better.
Scholarship applicants must submit the following items:
- Completed Scholarship Application
- Copy of transcript (10th-12th grade) or report card (9th grade) for the 2024 Spring Semester.
- A letter of recommendation on school letterhead from a teacher, school counselor, or principal
- Typed 250-word essay prepared by the student. Must include:
- An introduction of self and family
- Indicate involvement in church, school and community.
- Indicate how the receipt of the scholarship will help financially.
- An indication of college, career goals and future involvement in the Catholic Church
All documents must be received by September 23, 2024 in a complete package to be considered by the Scholarship Committee. Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time and place of their individual interview. Scholarships will be awarded at a Black Catholic History Mass in November 2024.
