On Friday, Oct. 27, Father Robert Erickson, a longtime priest of the Diocese, was called to eternal rest. He was 85 years old. Fr. Erickson was ordained in the Diocese of San Diego in 1958 and ministered in eight different parishes of the Diocese of  San Bernardino. He served as pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd, St. Mel, St. Margaret Mary, St. Catherine of Alexandria (Riverside) and Our Lady of the Lake parishes. He also served as a Director of Catholic Charities and continued to serve as a judge in the Diocesan Tribunal during his retirement. Funeral arrangements are pending. “Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.”

More than 100 people gathered at St. Andrew’s Newman Center in Riverside on Oct. 12 for the Diocesan Blue Mass, a liturgy of gratitude and support for those who work in public safety. At the Blue Mass, Assistant Chief John Freese of the UC Riverside Police Department was given the Chief Patrick Crowe Award for sharing his gifts and knowledge in the area of public safety with his community of faith through training and leadership.

Nearly 100 people gathered at St. Joseph Parish in Big Bear on Oct. 6 for the inaugural Diocesan Care for Creation Day. It was a prayerful day of experiencing the outdoors, reflecting on God's gift of creation and understanding the call of Pope Francis in his encyclical, Laudato Si, to be good stewards of the planet.
