Monsignor Cesar Encineras, a retired diocesan priest, passed away on June 15 at the age of 73. “Monsingor Ching,” as he was known, was ordained to the priesthood in 1977 in Sorsogon, Philippines, serving the Diocese of Sorsogon for many years in education and then in Evangelization and Mission, bringing him to California. Msgr. Ching came to the Diocese of San Bernardino in 2000 and, over the next two decades, served the parishes of St. Peter and St. Paul, Alta Loma; Immaculate Conception and San Salvador, Colton; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Indio; and The Holy Name of Jesus, Redlands.
The funeral mass for Msgr. Ching was held at St Peter and St. Paul Church on July 12. Bishop Alberto Rojas and Bishop Emeritus Gerald R. Barnes were joined by other clergy and seminarians at the Mass.
“In the water of Baptism, Msgr. Encineras died with Christ and rose with him to new life,” Bishop Rojas prayed at the beginning of the Mass. “May he now share with him eternal glory.”
