Senior running back Branden Rankins led the Falcons with 182 rushing yards.
The Aquinas-Notre Dame football rivalry dates back to 1958. Aquinas was victorious in the first match up and although it won this year’s game, Notre Dame holds the series edge with 35 wins to 21 wins for Aquinas. There has been one tie.
Each school spends the week preparing for the big game every year. The student body has fun making posters, having pep rallies, playing games, and getting excited for the matchup. It’s one of the best and most memorable events of the school year.
On October 6 both teams played hard, but Aquinas dominated on offense scoring 43 points. Notre Dame (5-3) put points on the board in the first half to keep the game close, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Falcons (8-0) who pulled away with three unanswered touchdowns in the second half.
The best part of the nearly 60-year rivalry is that win or lose they are all Catholics and playing for the greater glory of God. It’s an amazing opportunity for the students to have a Catholic school rivalry and be able to experience that through athletics.
