LA QUINTA—More than $300,000 was raised at the 15th Annual Bishop’s Golf Classic on December 1 to aid children seeking a Catholic education.

Held at PGA West in La Quinta, the Bishop’s Golf Classic drew the participation of 220 golfers. Proceeds from the signature fundraising event go toward the tuition assistance programs for Catholic schools in the Diocese and toward the Catholic Education Foundation. This year the Diocese will distribute $171,000 in tuition assistance for students attending Catholic schools.

In addition to the golf tournament, 28 Catholic schools in the Diocese sold raffle tickets for a chance to win a 2017 Ford Mustang. The winning ticket was selected by Father Rafael Partida during the banquet dinner that followed the golf event. Eddie Velasquez of Duarte was the lucky name chosen.

This event started in 2002 and, in over 15 years, has contributed over $1.5 million to the scholarship needs of the 30 schools the Diocese. Golfers and tournament sponsors from all over Southern California gather for a great day of golf and the opportunity to help students. Some of major sponsors include Citizens Business Bank, Fullerton, Lemann, Schaefer and Dominick, Redlands Ford, Dignity Memorial, Tovey/Schultz Construction and Trilogy by Shea Homes.
