Determined to do whatever it took to become a competition squad, this year’s team prepared for the competition by watching competition videos and television programs. Mrs. Patricia Godsy, their coach and the fourth grade teacher at OLA, gave them a list of goals they would need to meet to be ready.

“I was pleasantly surprised at their ability to learn to tumble and accomplish the stunting skills that competition requires,” Godsy said. “They are little, but they have passion and belief in each other.”

The team practiced over Christmas vacation and each week after, leading up to the Regional Competition that was held at Indian Springs High School in San Bernardino.

The Bruins’ hard work paid off, and they earned first place in the school division. They were also named Division Champion, competing against schools, recreational teams and All Stars. Their spirit on and off the floor earned them the Sportsmanship trophy. They will head to the California State Championship on March 19. Go Bruins!
