The class’s sculpture “Silver 16” is a tribute work in the style of artist Louise Nevelson. Students arranged various pastas in cardboard modules to simulate Nevelson’s style. The modules were painted silver and joined to create one large class project. The class collectively wrote this artist’s statement:

“This represents the work of our class. Like Louise Nevelson, we took random boxes of items (pasta), put them together, and created a unified piece of art. We call it “Silver 16” because the silver paint unifies all the work. We are all individuals, but together we are one!”

Throughout the year students have presented autobiographical assemblages, used recycled and organic items for printmaking, and combined watercolor washes with detailed architectural sketches.

“I really enjoy challenging this class to explore and expand their creativity,” said art teacher Elyse Shafer. “One of our schoolwide learning expectations is to be Creative and Expressive Individuals, and this class seems to love the challenge!”
