On Oct. 20, Bishop Alberto Rojas recognized healthcare professionals at the annual Diocesan White Mass at Christ the Redeemer Church in Grand Terrace. At the conclusion of Mass an awards program featured the following honorees: The St. Luke Award, which recognizes a healthcare professional who reflects Catholic values and moral ethics, was presented to Dr. Dan Miulli, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), San Bernardino County. The Florence Nightingale Award, which recognizes a licensed nurse who reflects Catholic values and moral ethics, was presented to Liza Simsuangco Lao, RN, Loma Linda University Medical Center. The Bishop Award, which recognizes a healthcare professional who is outstanding for conducting projects in preventive healthcare that fulfills the mission of the diocese, was presented to Maria Magdalena Cantu-Romo, LMFT, Diocese of San Bernardino. The St. Teresa of Calcutta Award, which recognizes a healthcare professional who provides healthcare services to the poor, the homeless, disadvantaged or marginalized people, was presented to Margaret Kennedy, Riverside University Health System. The St. Damien of Molokai Award, which recognizes a Chaplain who provides compassionate and dedicated spiritual care to the sick and dying, was presented to Chaplain Patrick O’Rourke, St. Mary Medical Center, Apple Valley.
