RIALTO—Nancy Jamarillo, an 11-year-old parishioner at St. Patrick Parish in Moreno Valley, was excited to finish her first crocheted blanket and present it to her step-father. She stepped forward, surrounded by her new friends, and presented the red blanket with black trim to him as a prayer was said for his continued health.

ALTA LOMA—About 30 statues of the Blessed Mother, some rich in history and all collected by a Phelan resident, have been recently donated to St. Peter and St. Paul Parish in Alta Loma. The parish held a dedication ceremony on May 19 to unveil the installation of the statues in the parish’s social hall.

PALM SPRINGS—Art imitated life last month when a Hollywood film crew came to Our Lady of Solitude parish in Palm Springs to recreate the funeral Mass of the late entertainer Liberace.

 A lifelong Catholic, Liberace maintained a residence across the street from the parish and producers of the forthcoming HBO movie “Behind the Candelabra” said they had wanted to film in the church because a funeral Mass for Liberace had taken place there after his death in 1987.
