St. Jeanne de Lestonnac student wins national flag design contest

As we celebrated 250 years of the United Sates the weekend of the Fourth of July, St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School in Temecula announced that Victoria Kalejaiye, sixth grade student, won first place in USA Today newspaper’s “Fly Your Flag” contest. Victoria’s flag design took first place out of nearly 850 middle school student submissions nationwide. The contest asked students to submit a flag design that captures what America means to them and what they hope the country can become. Victoria says her flag design, “represents unity, diversity and cohesion.” Victoria shared in a USA Today interview, “It shows the strength that people have from different backgrounds and races,” she continued, adding that “it also shows that we are in this together.” St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School Principal Kristen Mora says, “We could not be prouder of Victoria...Her flag design, essay, and interview reflect the values of our school, our Catholic Faith, and give us such a sense of hope for the future.” Congratulations, Victoria!
