Dr. Janice Lemann, wife of Bill Lemann, our Diocesan Counsel/Attorney, passed away on August 6, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Beaumont, California, she lived her life in Redlands, California. Dr. Lemann embarked on a journey of education and achievement. She attended several private Seventh Day Academy schools across California before graduating from Loma Linda Academy. Her academic journey continued at San Bernardino Valley College, culminating in a BA in Medical Illustrating from La Sierra University. A pinnacle achievement was her Doctorate degree in Dental Science from Loma Linda University. She also earned the esteemed status of Diplomate within the American Board of Forensic Odontology.
For over three decades, Dr. Lemann dedicated herself to the practice of general and cosmetic dentistry in San Bernardino County. Even in semi-retirement from clinical dentistry, her commitment persisted. She served as the Chief Dental Forensic Odontologist for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, as well as Deputy Chief Forensic Odontologist for San Diego County.
Dr. Lemann was a passionate champion of arts education who generously dedicated her time, talent and resources to help advance Aquinas High School’s visual arts program. Her most impactful contribution to Aquinas, in collaboration with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and Shea Charities, was the transformational leadership gift that made possible the construction of the new Janice Lemann Visual Arts Center at Aquinas. This state-of-the-art facility, set to open this fall, will provide an exceptional creative space for students to flourish for generations to come.
Dr. Leman’s involvement with Aquinas spanned many years. “As a steadfast advocate for nurturing youth talent, she found great inspiration in engaging with our students,” Aquinas High School said in her memory. A Mass of Resurrection for Dr. Lemann was held at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral on Aug. 14.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, contributions in Dr. Lemann’s memory may be made to the “Janice Lemann Memorial Art Scholarship” at Aquinas High School. For further details, please contact the school at 909-886-4659.
