 The dinner is the brainchild of Delila Vasquez, President of San Bernardino Catholic Elementary Schools, who has been working to generate support for Holy Rosary Academy and Our Lady of the Assumption School among the city’s business community.

 “I’ve been going out to the community and telling them about the positive effects of our Catholic schools,” said Vasquez of the dinner. “Stepping on to the school grounds and feeling the 70 years of contribution is important.

 Bishop Gerald Barnes will be joined at the Guardian Angel Gala by a number of alumni from Catholic schools in San Bernardino, both present and past, who will be honored for their contributions to the community.

 Holy Rosary Academy alumns Wilfred Lemann, Diocesan legal counsel, and Ted Alejandre, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools will receive the  Guardian Angel Award, given to alumni that have chosen a career of service and continue to be engaged in the community, parish and or school.

 Our Lady of the Assumption alumns Jarilyn Long and Scott Neudorf will also receive this award along with San Bernardino City Councilwoman Virginia Marquez, an alumn of the now-closed Our Lady of Guadalupe School.

 Mary Schmidt and Veronica Roybal, alumns of now-closed St. Bernardine School, will receive the Guardian Angel Award as well.

 Sister Camilus Gavigan, RSM, will receive Pillar Angel Award, given to an individual who has devoted time and effort to our Catholic Schools. 

 A Growing Wings Guardian Angel Award will be given to young alumni who are preparing for a career in service and/or are actively engaged in the life of their parish. The recipients are Andrea Harlin from Holy Rosary Academy and Crystal Lopez from Our Lady of the Assumption.

 The gala includes a formal dinner, silent auction and a drawing for a three-day family trip to Disneyland, California Adventure.

 Proceeds from the event will go toward tuition scholarships for students wishing to attend Holy Rosary Academy or Our Lady of the Assumption School.
