SAN BERNARDINO—During the Christmas season many of us have the opportunity to be with family, to spend time in worship, and to reach out in charity to those in need.
May these Christmas instincts inspire our resolutions for the year ahead to spend more time with family and friends; to build a stronger relationship with our God; to reach out to the poor.
Thank you, for your generous and faithful sacrifices that sustain the good work of the DDF Annual Appeal. Your kindness has brought hope and provided help to thousands of our neighbors in need throughout the Diocese of San Bernardino.
This year, nearly 25,000 of you contributed more than $6.5 million to the DDF Annual Appeal. 27% of funds collected went to the care of our priests and seminarians, 24% went to serving families, 27% went to strengthen parishes, 22% went to serve the poor. Over $1.2 million went back to our parishes for much needed improvements and renovations.
As we look ahead to the 2019 DDF Annual Appeal, our theme is “Planting Hope, Harvesting Love.” Bishop Gerald Barnes invites us to reflect on St. Paul’s passage to the Christians of Corinth, “…whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” With these words, the Christians of Corinth were challenged to be eager in their support for their brothers and sisters in Christ. This passage offers the same call to us today.
We can never match God’s great generosity to all of us, but we can do our part in sharing what we have with great love. The 2019 DDF Annual Appeal Campaign will officially kick-off the weekend of January 26-27. Let us plant hope by committing with a pledge to the DDF Annual Appeal, so that we can harvest love. The more generous you are in your commitment to prayer, your commitment to parish ministry and your commitment to reflect on what God has given you, the more your parish will benefit. Thank you in advance for your generosity to the DDF Annual Appeal.
