“I knew that the diocese is very diverse and that’s something that I’ve found to be enriching,” Espinoza said. “Especially how great attention is placed to the different groups present [during celebrations] with respect. That’s something that attracted me to the diocese.”

She will work alongside Office of Worship Director Sister Marilu Covani, S.P. in researching and reviewing liturgical documents for the bishop, developing relationships with liturgical leaders in parishes, promoting and evaluating formational programs for ministers in liturgy and serving in committees for diocesan liturgical celebrations.

Working in positions dealing with formation and liturgy, Espinoza hopes to apply her knowledge and perspective in her new position.

“I want to familiarize myself with the programs and I look forward to meeting new people,” Espinoza said. “I’m open to learning and I know Sr. Marilu will be a good source for guidance.”

Espinoza began in ministry as a catechist, youth advisor, a part of the young adult ministry and in the liturgy committee at Epiphany Parish in South El Monte. She entered the novitiate for five years with the Sisters of the Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Ind., but felt her true calling was to serve the Church as a lay minister.

For almost 30 years she has served in campus ministry, promoting vocations, and coordinating formation programs at several Catholic universities, among other activities. She has consistently been involved in preparing for liturgical events and in the formation of liturgical ministers.
